Family Constellation Workshops

Family Constellations can help move life-long issues that have been influenced or may even originate from the family/ancestral line. As children we take on our family patterns out of love and devotion and yet they do not always serve us as adults. A Family Constellation allows old patterns to drop away easily, opening up new possibilities of how things could be. Participants talk about a significant flowering of a profoundly more joyful way of being. The presence of other family members is not required.

Are there patterns holding you back from being who you fully can be?
Is there something blocking you from achieving your goals and living the life you want to live?
Do some people or situations really trigger you?

The work was pioneered by Bert Hellinger, a Catholic missionary and psychotherapist working in Africa with the Zulus. Family ancestors were regarded by the Zulus as highly important to the health of individuals and society as a whole. Hellinger developed a way of working with a group of people, initiated from his experience in Zulu culture, which involves choosing people to represent your family for you, so that you can see what’s really going on. We often hold a limited view of what our family is like, and this is a way of seeing it differently.

The Indian guru Osho stated we are to some degree a product of our ancestral line and that our children take on that pattern unless we address it in the present.

“A rose flower contains all the rose flowers of the past …and all the future flowers also.”

French novelist Marcel Proust captures some of the potential of working on ancestral issues.

“When we have passed a certain age, the soul of the child we were and the souls of the dead from whom we have sprung come to lavish on us their riches and their spells.”

Proust: In Search of Lost Time.

Doing a Family Constellation frequently results in profound change for both the people doing the constellation and, often mysteriously, other members of the family who were not present on the day. Simply being present ourselves in the group, we are in service to others, healing their pain and discomfort and we can be deeply touched ourselves in the process.
